Michelle Kobayashi

Michelle Kobayashi, MBA, MSN, RN, CMTE, EMT, is a Senior Consultant at EMSaegis, LLC. Michelle has more than 25 years of healthcare, nursing, and leadership experience, currently serving full-time as the Director of the HMH Transfer Center, HUMC EMS, and Emergency Community Operations at Hackensack University Medical Center. Her responsibilities include ambulance, paramedic, ground critical care and air medical services, as well as the MICCOM communications center and the network transfer center. As the Director of Emergency Community Operations, she partners with Emergency and Trauma Center leaders to oversee the relationship between Hackensack University Medical Center and the many community-based EMS providers in Bergen, Passaic and Hudson County, New Jersey.

In 1993, Michelle joined the local volunteer ambulance corps in her hometown, and after becoming an Emergency Medical Technician, chose nursing as a career. She joined Hackensack University Medical Center in 1997, where she has worked on several units, including the medical intensive care unit, the emergency and trauma center, the satellite emergency department, the observation unit and now EMS. Michelle has served as both an informal and formal leader in every role she’s held within the medical center, from trusted mentor, to committee leader, to Director.

Michelle’s leadership philosophy stems from her commitment to service. “Our patients and their families tell us what they need. They’re at the center of everything that we do. Our nurses, paramedics, and EMTs are the ones who assess these needs and work with the patients and families to determine the best way to care for them. As a leader, it’s my job to provide resources and support to our front-line staff so that our patients receive the best possible care.”

This commitment to service continues outside of her hospital role as well. Michelle is an active member of the volunteer ambulance service in her community, along with her son and daughter. She has served as a catechist through her church, as a Girl Scout leader, and has participated in a medical mission to Dali, Yunnan, China.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mount Saint Mary College, in Newburgh, NY, a Master of Science in Nursing in Health Systems Administration from Seton Hall University, and a Master of Business Administration and graduate certificate in Entrepreneurship from the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University. She is a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA), and the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), a 2013 graduate of the American Organization of Nurse Executives Nurse Manager Fellowship program, and served on the AONE Publication Committee, publishing an article on nurse leader rounding.
