Chris Hilliard, MS, GSP, NRP, is a seasoned paramedic and health and safety professional based in Lower Delaware. With over 20 years of experience in the fire and EMS community, Chris currently serves as the Health and Safety Coordinator for the Sussex County Department of Public Safety, Division of EMS. In this role, he is responsible for a wide range of critical functions, including infection control, peer support, employee wellness, and safety operations.
Chris developed a passion for health and safety after joining Sussex County, where he began focusing on these vital areas. After being promoted to the administrative staff, he took on increased responsibilities to enhance safety and wellness programs for EMS personnel. In addition to his work in public safety, Chris has experience in the funeral industry, where he helped ensure compliance and safety for a small funeral home.
Originally from Central Pennsylvania, Chris earned an Associate’s Degree in Health Science after completing his paramedic training at Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2013. He later obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Health Studies from the same institution and went on to earn a Master’s in Occupational Health and Safety from Columbia Southern University.
Chris holds several certifications, including Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, Certified Designated Infection Control Officer from the International Board of Specialty Certifications, and is an instructor with the National Association of EMTs (NAEMT). He has also served on several committees within the EMS community, including the planning committee for the Mile-High RETAC National EMS Safety Summit and was recently nominated for the NAEMT Workforce Development Committee.
His areas of expertise include OSHA compliance, program development for bloodborne pathogens and infection control, respiratory protection, emergency action planning, safety driving programs, and much more.
Chris’s education, credentials, and experience make him a valuable asset in helping organizations prioritize employee wellness and safety.
